CranioSacral Therapy

Pioneered and developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger, DO, OMM in the 1970’s

About

What is CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the craniosacral system, a physiological body system comprised of the membranes and Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. The craniosacral system extends from the skull or head to the sacrum or tailbone and functions like a semi-hydraulic pump.

“As an energy practitioner myself, I know the mind-body connection. Through CranioSacral Therapy at Healing The Generations, while experiencing quick relief of my physical symptoms, I have also experienced a number of “ah Ha” moments, where I discovered the psychological, emotional and mental “root cause” of these physical symptoms.” Janice, St Petersburg FL

“The first thing that happened when I started CranioSacral Therapy was that Nadine helped my body get rid of a pain in my butt (from a very ungraceful fall into a friend’s jacuzzi). I then noticed that after some sessions I started to feel less depressed, less stressed, less headaches and more at peace.” Laurie Gleason, Dunedin, Fl

How does CranioSacral Therapy work?

Using a soft touch, CranioSacral Therapy assesses the restrictions in the craniosacral system and releases them while monitoring the subtle flow and drainage of the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF). This flow is called Craniosacral Rhythm (CSR) and is crucial as the CSF  is responsible to bring the necessary nutrients to the brain and spinal cord, remove their waste and toxins and protect them by way of its buoyancy.  The craniosacral rhythm, like our heartbeat and breath, is a vital part of our existence and is a good indicator of our Central Nervous System state of health.

SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is a therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of CST to help rid the mind and the body of the residual effects of trauma.

Our Physical Therapist, Nadine Verdebout  has been trained at the advanced level of CST and SER for both adults and pediatrics. She has been practicing this techniques successfully since 1996 and it has been a game changer for her professional as well as personal life.

What will you experience during and after a CranioSacral Therapy session?

For the session, you will lie down on a comfortable therapy table, fully dressed. A blanket is always at your reach if you are cold. Your comfort is very important to the success of CST. Using a light touch, your session will begin with a full body evaluation that consists of Nadine placing her hands on your feet. This process will give her the feedback to where your body wants to be treated first. Continuing with a light touch, Nadine will facilitate the body to release the restrictions that are contributing to the dysfunction and your symptoms.

During a session, you may feel completely relaxed or even fall asleep, you may talk a great deal, recall memories, or even experience emotions. There are no right, or wrong reactions and it is all individual. After the session, you might feel an immediate stress, pain or dysfunction release or the effects may develop gradually. You also may experience a reorganization phase as your body released previously held patterns and adapts to a new state of wellness.

As the body and the mind release the accumulated stress and tension patterns, the Autonomic Nervous System is able to come out of its Fight, Flight or Freeze State and reach its innate Parasympathetic State where Healing, Resting and Digesting are rooted. And this is where the magic happens!
